Get ready to unsheathe your katana and dive into the heart of ancient Japan! In this final preview of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, we’re taking you on an immersive journey through a world teetering on the brink of chaos. Join Miyamoto Musashi as he grapples with the power of the Oni Gauntlet, battles hordes of demonic Genma, and fights to liberate the besieged city of Kyoto.
The Path of the Warrior
At the beginning of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Miyamoto Musashi is burdened by the mystical Oni Gauntlet. This artifact grants him immense power but also binds him to a destiny he doesn’s initially want. While Musashi yearns to prove himself through his own skill, the game explores how he gradually embraces his newfound abilities and finds his place in this dangerous world.
The gameplay expands beyond initial encounters, offering a blend of focused missions and expansive environments. You’ll navigate treacherous landscapes, uncover hidden secrets, and master a growing arsenal of abilities.

Into the Oni Refuge
Picking up where the Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo left off, this preview throws you into the otherworldly “Oni Refuge.” Here, gravity is a mere suggestion as you traverse floating islands and conjure ruins from thin air.
The arrival of the Genma shatters the tranquility of this realm. These demonic invaders clash with the sacred scenery, but they’re no match for Musashi’s blade. The game features “dynamic dismemberment,” allowing you to carve through enemies in visceral and satisfying ways.

You’ll also acquire the Oni Bow, a powerful weapon that allows you to solve environmental puzzles and engage enemies at range. This bow is crucial for both combat and exploration, adding another layer of depth to the gameplay.
Kyoto Under Siege
After cleansing the Oni Refuge, the oppressive Malice looming over Kyoto begins to dissipate. However, darkness still lingers in this ancient capital. Your next destination is Rokudo Chinno-ji Temple, a real-life location steeped in legend as a crossroads between our world and the gates of hell.

Kyoto is a vast and sprawling city, far larger than any area you’s encountered before. However, your ability to freely explore its streets is currently limited. Demonic structures rise from the ground, and a toxic fog sweeps through town, creating blockades that trap unsuspecting locals.
Liberating Kyoto
Your quest to liberate Kyoto begins by sealing rifts where Genma manifest in our dimension. These creatures come in all shapes and sizes, but Musashi slays them and absorbs their souls, which are essential for upgrading gear and unlocking new abilities.
This path eventually leads to Kiyomizu-zaka slope, a pilgrimage road that climbs the hillside to the temple where your journey began. Unlocking this area requires overcoming some truly formidable foes.

Trials and Temptations
In the Oni Refuge, you encountered Daidara, a towering Genma with an insatiable hunger, even for your hard-earned souls. Tactical decisions are crucial in these battles, as losing souls can have dire consequences.
Another Genma offers to free Musashi from his gauntlet… but at the cost of his entire arm. This temptation highlights the internal conflict within Musashi as he grapples with the burden of his powers.

Rasho-gan, a multi-armed monster masquerading as a deity at Yasui Konpiragu Shrine, exploits people’s desires in the worst possible ways. Constructed from the body parts of his victims, Rasho-gan wields his extra limbs to unleash devastating attacks on Musashi.
Escaping Rasho-gan’s clutches requires mastering the game’s deep combat techniques. In return for your efforts, the shrine guardians bestow upon you Oni Strength, allowing you to tear down the demonic barriers surrounding Kyoto and confront the source of the toxic fog choking the city.

The Final Stand
This life-draining mist emanates from eerie plants, which must be chopped down to clear it. However, Byakue stands in your way. Before you can fell the final tree, this animalistic Genma charges into battle.
While skill alone may allow Musashi to outlast this creature, another strategy proves wise: delivering fewer but more devastating blows quickly tames the beast.

After completing the mission, the oppressive haze lifts from much of Kyoto, and the townsfolk rejoice. More of the city is now open for exploration, marking just the beginning of your action-packed adventure.
