Prince of Persia Remake Canceled Amidst Ubisoft’s Major Overhaul

[Engaging, punchy, click-worthy English headline]

Ubisoft is undergoing a massive restructuring, resulting in the cancellation of six games, including the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. This news follows years of development and speculation surrounding the project. As reported by Jason Schreier via Bluesky, the team was reportedly unhappy with the game’s state, leading to its cancellation as part of this broader reorganization.

The long-awaited Prince of Persia remake has been canceled.

Alongside Prince of Persia, five other unannounced games have also been scrapped, including a mobile title. Ubisoft cited that these titles “do not meet the new enhanced quality and more selective portfolio prioritization criteria.” Seven other games, rumored to include a remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, have been internally delayed to ensure they meet higher quality benchmarks and maximize long-term value creation.

Ubisoft aims to “return to exceptional levels of quality” in its open-world adventure games and to improve its position in the “GaaS-native experiences” segment. This restructuring also impacts other projects, including Beyond Good & Evil 2, a sequel that has been in development for over a decade. While there’s no official word on its fate, job listings suggest it might still be alive, albeit in a precarious state.

The future of Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains uncertain.

Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft’s founder and CEO, emphasized the need for a “major reset” to create conditions for sustainable growth. He highlighted the increasing competitiveness within the AAA gaming industry, driven by rising development costs and the challenge of creating successful brands. However, he also noted that exceptional AAA games have the potential for significant financial success.

To achieve these goals, Ubisoft is reorganizing into five “creative houses,” each focusing on specific franchises. These houses cover everything from the core Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry titles to new IPs like March of Giants, a free-to-play MOBA that remains in development. Each creative house will be supported by a “creative network” of studios and a “core services” team, ensuring Ubisoft has the resources needed to deliver high-quality games.

This restructuring also involves cost-cutting measures, with Ubisoft aiming to achieve €100 million in fixed cost savings by March 2026. This will be achieved through studio closures and restructurings at various locations. The next confirmed release from Ubisoft is Rainbow Six Mobile, launching on February 23rd. Other titles slated for 2026 include The Division Resurgence, Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, and Might and Magic Fates.
