Prices for graphics cards continue to be a rollercoaster. Just last week, we noted prices were stabilizing, but after checking again this morning, things have taken another turn for the worse.
The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB Problem
Among the biggest offenders is the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB. With memory being a major driver of price increases over the past year, it’s not surprising that this card, packed with VRAM, has seen some of the steepest rises. However, its current price point is simply outrageous.
In my search for a brand-new card from a reputable retailer, I found an MSI Shadow RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB listed for [Price]. This is not only more expensive than comparable cards like the [Comparable Card] at [Price], but it also significantly exceeds the price of AMD’s [AMD Card] at [Price]. In fact, it’s even pricier than the RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB, which I found for [Price]. That’s a $350 premium just for the extra 8GB of memory.
Honestly, there’s little reason to purchase an RTX 5060 Ti at that price. Even at its original MSRP, it wasn’t a card I was particularly excited about. While I appreciate having lots of VRAM, especially for local AI tasks, there’s a limit to how much I’m willing to pay for it.
[Table with historical pricing data]
Generally, Radeon cards haven’t seen the same meteoric price increases as their GeForce counterparts. While prices have definitely increased over the past year, they’ve generally been more moderate. Perhaps this is because gamers looking for a powerful GPU with lots of VRAM are more likely to choose NVIDIA, or maybe the newer GDDR7 chips used in RTX 50-series cards have higher spot prices.
Ultimately, I wouldn’t recommend buying an RTX 5060 Ti at its current price. There are better value options available, and even AMD offers compelling alternatives.
