The second season of the Black Clover anime, which premiered Oct. 3, has set a record on the streaming service Crunchyroll. As of this writing, episode 171—titled “The Battle Begins”—is the most-liked anime premiere of 2026, with 135,500 likes.
New seasons such as these premiered on the subscription service earlier this year but did not accrue that many likes. Fan reception has been glowing, with an aggregate user score of 9.4 on IMDb. Fans had waited a long time for more Black Clover and appear satisfied.
The premiere, which begins to adapt the manga’s Final Wizard King storyline, seems to have lived up to expectations.
Between October 2017 and March 2021, 170 episodes of Black Clover were produced, all technically part of the show’s first season. They followed Asta, a boy born without magical powers in a world where everyone has them, who wields a five-leaf grimoire that gives him Anti-Magic powers. A movie was released on Netflix in 2023 to tide fans over, but anime fans had received little else from Black Clover for over half a decade until last week.

More than 135,000 people have now shown their support for the series on Crunchyroll following its return. Episode 172, “The Door to Hell,” premiered Oct. 10 and had already surpassed 14,000 likes at time of writing.
Black Clover Season 2 is expected to run for 26 episodes, with the first 13 airing weekly between now and December. These new episodes will exclusively air on Crunchyroll.
