Amazon MGM Studios is developing a new Stargate series, bringing on board Jac Schaeffer, the creator of Disney Plus’s critically acclaimed hit WandaVision, according to a report by Variety.
The studio has long sought to create a Stargate television adaptation. In 2025, Amazon brought on Martin Gero, creator of Blindspot, who had worked on various Stargate television series early in his career. That project was canceled early in development.
According to Variety, Amazon was “concerned that Gero’s take on the series would not have broad appeal.” The studio continued searching for a writer and appears to have found one in Schaeffer.
This year, Amazon struck a three-year deal with Jac Schaeffer. It is now leveraging that agreement by handing her the Stargate project. Schaeffer is best known as creator of WandaVision and Agatha All Along, two shows that topped charts on Disney Plus, and Amazon appears to be hoping she can replicate that success.
Little is known about the new project or how it will differ from Gero’s earlier take. No release window has been announced for the series.
The undertaking carries significant weight among veteran science fiction fans, while also potentially drawing a younger audience less familiar with Stargate compared to rival franchises such as Star Wars and Star Trek.
