Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Rainbow Six Mobile will be permanently shut down, ending the mobile adaptation’s brief life just months after its full global rollout in February 2026. The studio announced on Wednesday that all servers for the game will go dark on January 16, 2027, meaning the title will have been available to everyone for less than a single year before being pulled from service.
The announcement marks an abrupt end to a project that first surfaced in soft-launch form back in 2023. Rainbow Six Mobile was pitched as a mobile-optimized take on Ubisoft’s critically acclaimed tactical shooter, Rainbow Six Siege, which has continued to thrive more than a decade after its original release. Despite the pedigree behind the franchise and the anticipation surrounding the handheld spinoff, the game failed to retain enough of an audience to justify continuing operations.
A Bittersweet Farewell
In a statement addressing the shutdown, Ubisoft acknowledged the community that rallied around the title during its run. “We are proud of the passion, creativity, and dedication our team has put into the game,” the studio said. “One of the greatest parts of this adventure has been getting to experience it alongside you. We’ve loved seeing the memes, videos, strategies, tournaments, impossible plays, and all the countless moments that happened because you were here.”

The developer noted that its team will now pivot toward what it described as “other long-term strategic projects,” though Ubisoft stopped short of specifying which titles or platforms those initiatives might involve. The studio promised to reveal more granular details about the game’s final days in the coming weeks, including information on how players can still access their accounts and content before the January 2027 deadline.
“We are truly grateful to everyone who has played our game.”

The Broader Context at Ubisoft
The fate of Rainbow Six Mobile arrives against a backdrop of significant turbulence for the French publisher. This year has been one of the most consequential in recent memory for Ubisoft, as the company restructured its operations through an expanded partnership with Chinese tech giant Tencent. As part of that sweeping overhaul, Ubisoft enacted mass layoffs, closed studios, and cancelled games across multiple divisions.
The decision to retire Rainbow Six Mobile fits squarely into that larger pattern of cost-cutting and portfolio consolidation. Rather than continuing to fund a live-service title with diminishing engagement, the publisher appears to be concentrating its resources on projects it deems more strategically viable in the long term.
A Franchise With a Bright Future
For fans concerned about the health of the Rainbow Six brand as a whole, Ubisoft has offered reassurance that the franchise itself remains in strong hands. The next mainline entry, Rainbow Six Tactics, and it’s coming next year, is set to carry the banner forward on more established platforms.
Rainbow Six Siege continues to perform remarkably well even now, more than ten years after its initial launch, maintaining a dedicated player base and competitive scene. The success of that title likely informed Ubisoft’s original ambition to translate the tactical shooter experience to mobile devices—a vision that ultimately proved difficult to sustain in practice.
Players who wish to enjoy Rainbow Six Mobile one last time will have until January 16, 2027 to do so. Until then, the community is expected to continue competing in tournaments and sharing content as the countdown to the game’s closure continues.
