The upcoming FX anthology television series based on Ubisoft’s Far Cry video game franchise has expanded its cast with five new actors as it moves closer to production. Oscar nominees Jennifer Jason Leigh, known for The Hateful Eight and Fargo, and Brendan Gleeson, of Spider-Noir and The Banshees of Inisherin, have joined the project alongside Hamish Linklater (Batman: Caped Crusader, The Whisper Man), Sam Spruell (Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), and Jamie Demetriou (Only Murders in the Building).
The additions bring the ensemble to a notable size for an adaptation that will air on both FX and Hulu. The series is being developed as an anthology, meaning each season will present its own distinct story, setting, and cast drawn from different corners of the long-running shooter franchise. Showrunners Noah Hawley (Fargo, Alien: Earth) and Rob Mac are steering production, with previously announced talent including Lizzy Caplan and Steve Buscemi rounding out the known roster.
A Growing Ensemble for an Anthology Format
The casting expansion signals that FX is committing substantial resources to a property that has long been one of Ubisoft’s most commercially successful franchises. By structuring the show as an anthology, the studio leaves room to explore different eras and tones from across the games rather than being locked into a single protagonist or continuity. Each season can therefore stand alone while still tapping into the recognizable world-building that fans have come to expect.

The newly signed performers bring considerable prestige to the undertaking. Both Leigh and Gleeson are acclaimed character actors with extensive filmographies, lending credibility to an adaptation of a franchise primarily defined by its open-world combat rather than dramatic depth. Their involvement suggests the series aims for something closer to prestige television than typical game-based spinoffs.
The Far Cry TV show is adding five more actors to its cast as it heads towards production, with Oscar nominees Jennifer Jason Leigh and Brendan Gleeson among those who have signed on.

A Franchise in Transition
The television adaptation arrives during a relatively quiet period for the games themselves. The most recent entry, Far Cry 6, launched in 2021 and was well received by critics, with IGN awarding it an eight out of ten. Since then, the franchise has remained dormant without new installments, making this screen adaptation one of the few ways fans have encountered the brand recently.
Ubisoft’s track record with television adaptations has been encouraging in recent years. The studio’s animated Splinter Cell series, Deathwatch, drew positive reactions from viewers and critics alike, offering a template for how game properties can translate to screen when handled thoughtfully. That success likely bolsters confidence that the Far Cry adaptation could find an audience beyond existing gamers.
