Developer IO Interactive has unveiled Extended Operations, a major free update for the James Bond title 007 First Light, now available across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The expansive content drop introduces new missions including the Valhalla Protocol time trial, a dedicated photo mode, New Game Plus, additional weapons and outfits, plus a punishing 00 difficulty setting for veteran players.
The update represents another significant milestone in IO Interactive’s ongoing investment in its debut Bond game since it launched in May. Rather than charging fans for new content, the studio has packed Extended Operations with substantial gameplay additions designed to deepen an already well-received campaign and extend the title’s lifespan across multiple platforms.
The Valhalla Protocol Brings Back Aston Martin
The centerpiece of Extended Operations is the Valhalla Protocol, which returns Bond’s signature Aston Martin Valhalla ride for a heart-pounding race against the clock in Slovakia. Players will test their driving skills across four different versions of the track, each demanding precision and speed to secure first place.
When simply putting the pedal to the metal proves insufficient, drivers can lean on the car’s arsenal of guns and missile launchers to dominate the competition. The studio has positioned this as a far more thrilling experience than a standard Formula One race, blending vehicular combat with timed racing in true Bond fashion.
Capture the Moments With New Photo Mode
With capturing some of the game’s most exciting sequences, 007 First Light now offers fans a dedicated photo mode to preserve these moments. Similar to features found across many modern titles, the tool allows players to position Bond and customize their shots using unique filters, custom light setups, exclusive poses, and additional options.
The feature enables enthusiasts to stage everything from dramatic action stills to lighthearted character moments, ensuring the game’s visual flair can be shared long after missions are complete.

New Missions and Arsenal Expansions
Beyond the Valhalla Protocol, Extended Operations introduces Jungle Heist, a fresh mission that tasks Bond with infiltrating a jungle villa to uncover who is concealing the codes to a secret safe. Players must retrieve its contents before fighting their way back to an extraction point through hostile terrain.

The update also expands Bond’s weaponry with two new additions: the Squire Marksman rifle and the Storm 12 shotgun, giving players more tactical options as they navigate the campaign.

Dress for Success With New Outfits
Time to dress for success—or big-budget Hollywood explosions—with a fresh set of Q Division threads. Bond can now don casual attire with the Leisure Beam outfit, elevate his style with the First Class tuxedo, or blend in seamlessly using the Observant Spy ensemble.
“As Hollywood seems uncertain about where to take Bond next, IO Interactive’s debut effort is supremely confident.”
Mark Delaney, GameSpot
The New Game Plus mode allows players to replay the entire campaign while choosing from outfits unlocked during their first playthrough, adding a layer of personalization to repeat visits. Meanwhile, the newly added 00 difficulty mode is designed for those who believe they’ve earned their license to kill, offering limited resources and deadly enemies that punish even the smallest mistakes.
Looking Ahead
IO Interactive has steadily expanded 007 First Light since its May launch, building momentum around a title that reached an impressive milestone of 4 million units sold in August 2026 across PC and consoles. Amazon Game Studios boss Jeff Gattis recently suggested that a sequel remains a matter of when rather than if.
The Switch 2 edition has faced several delays and is now expected to arrive in March 2027 as IO works to optimize the game for the Nintendo handheld, leaving players on that platform still waiting. Expected to arrive in March 2027
As the studio continues its content roadmap, Extended Operations reinforces the game’s standing while critics like Mark Delaney praise its confident approach to the iconic character. The 007 First Light review highlights how IO Interactive has carved out a distinct identity in the Bond franchise landscape.
