GTA 6 May Skip Disney World Parody, But Florida’s Real Oddities Will Remain

When Game Informer recently asked Rockstar Games whether iconic central Florida landmarks such as Disney World or downtown Orlando would appear in some form within Grand Theft Auto 6, the studio’s answer offered a rare, direct window into how the developer sculpts its fictional version of the state. According to Paul MacPherson, Rockstar’s senior vice president of environment art, the game will not reproduce those specific real-world locations, though it will still capture the unmistakable spirit of Florida through a carefully assembled collection of original landmarks, theme parks, and natural landscapes.

The comments emerged Tuesday as part of a substantial 14-page preview of the highly anticipated open-world title, in which the outlet probed questions that fans have long speculated about but that have never been confirmed through official gameplay footage, trailers, or leaks. Beyond central Florida, Game Informer also pressed Rockstar about the state’s eastern seaboard, specifically NASA’s Space Coast and the military installations around Cape Canaveral, locations that have yet to surface in any official or leaked material.

A Deliberately Constructed Florida

MacPherson’s response made clear that the world of Grand Theft Auto 6 is not a straightforward map of the Sunshine State, but rather a distilled, design-driven interpretation of it. The environment team, he explained, constantly weighs the variety of terrain, architecture, and natural features before narrowing its choices to serve the game’s narrative and gameplay goals.

“We have to constantly evaluate the diversity of landscapes, towns, structures, landmarks, vistas, plant species, rock formations, and everything else before we work with design and narrative to distill a list down that best works with and serves the game’s needs,” said MacPherson. “So, while we may not have those exact locations, everything we have is geared to getting that full Florida experience!”

The phrasing leaves deliberate room for interpretation. While Rockstar appears to have ruled out a direct parody of Disney World or a recreation of Orlando, it did not entirely close the door on a theme park or space-related facility appearing in some altered form. The studio has, however, already signaled its approach through official marketing materials, which have teased a large alligator-themed amusement park widely believed to be inspired by Gatorland, the long-running gator-filled park and zoo located just south of Orlando.

Disney Gets Parodied, Just Not That Way

Although players may not be able to take a virtual road trip to a Mickey Mouse-style kingdom, Rockstar shows no intention of leaving Disney entirely untouched. A Minnie Mouse-inspired character spotted in the game’s gameplay reveal appears to be connected to Fred’s Pictures, the fictional Disney analog that was first referenced in Grand Theft Auto V. That connection suggests the studio intends to skewer the entertainment giant’s cultural footprint while steering clear of directly recreating its most famous physical attractions.

The inclusion of a Gatorland-inspired park reinforces the broader picture: Rockstar is not ignoring central Florida so much as remixing it. Rather than replicating a single real location, the developer is assembling a patchwork of distinctive elements, blending original creations with nods to genuine regional quirks to produce a world that feels authentically Floridian without being a mere copy.

For those hoping to visit the real Gatorland in the meantime, the park remains open, and its peculiar charm—along with its surprisingly edible gator meat—awaits visitors who want a taste of the oddity that inspired part of the game’s fictional landscape.
