Nearly a year after Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks first confirmed that a Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair product was in development, the studio has dropped its first concrete teaser, revealing a Halloween-flavored Superdrop titled “Corn Maze” slated to arrive on October 12. The announcement surfaced Tuesday when the official Secret Lair accounts on X and Bluesky posted a set of four teaser images, offering fans their first real glimpse at what promises to be a crossover event spanning Marvel, KPop Demon Hunters, and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth.

The reveal arrives in the wake of Hasbro’s partnership with Netflix, inked last year to license toys and other merchandise, and follows Cocks’s own assurance that the company was exploring how to bring its most lucrative collectible card expansion to some of pop culture’s biggest franchises. With the October 12 date now locked in, the speculation that has circulated throughout the trading card community is finally beginning to take shape.

Decoding the Corn Maze Teaser

At first glance, the four teaser images appear to depict a vast corn maze at night, scattered with a variety of seemingly random objects. The moody, autumnal tone strongly suggests a Halloween-themed release, and the studio has helpfully left its biggest spoilers in plain sight through the copyright and trademark notices at the bottom of each image. Those legal disclaimers name Marvel, KPop Demon Hunters, and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth, confirming that players should expect at least one Drop tied to each of these properties.

Among the more subtle clues tucked into the artwork is a magpie wearing a traditional Korean gat, a cylindrical hat. That figure is unmistakably Sussie, the demon bird frequently seen alongside the large tiger Derpy in KPop Demon Hunters. Originally companions and messengers who served Jinu of the Saja Boys, Sussie and Derpy fall under Rumi’s care by the film’s conclusion. In the movie’s final scene, Rumi departs the bathhouse with Mira and Zoey to greet excited fans, and Sussie flies overhead before landing on Derpy’s head as the pair watch from a nearby rooftop.

What the Clues Signal for Players

Beyond the reveal date of October 12, which is presumably when the Superdrop goes on sale, details remain scarce. Marvel is no surprise to anyone following the game’s recent trajectory, as the ongoing collaboration has already produced 2025’s Marvel’s Spider-Man and June’s Marvel Super Heroes. Whatever Drops land within the Corn Maze Superdrop will likely carry a horror bent in some capacity, with fans already speculating about possibilities like Marvel Zombies.

The legal disclaimer references the Jim Henson Company, but it does so in the same section as Labyrinth Enterprises, the rights-holding entity associated with the 1986 film Labyrinth. Within the maze, a clock appears to nod to the film’s central premise, in which Sarah is given 13 hours to rescue her brother Toby. Another image features a hand that is almost certainly that of David Bowie’s Goblin King, Jareth, clutching his mystical crystal balls.

October has historically been a monumental month for Secret Lair, and this year’s release looks poised to follow suit. The October 2022 Superdrop alone included 11 distinct Drops, hinting that the Marvel, KPop Demon Hunters, and Labyrinth properties could each receive three Drops of their own. One thing is certain: fans are eagerly anticipating that Huntr/x and the Saja Boys from KPop Demon Hunters each earn their own Drop, and the community sincerely hopes at least some of them will feature mechanically unique cards that set them apart from standard releases.
