After a decade of content, an Australian Warhammer creator known online as “Macca” has announced the closure of his YouTube channel, The Outer Circle, citing Games Workshop’s DMCA takedowns of his 3D-printed designs alongside burnout from death threats, attempted doxxing, and relentless online hostility. The announcement, delivered in a video titled “The End,” marks the conclusion of a channel that became one of the most prominent voices covering Games Workshop’s Horus Heresy tabletop line.
The Outer Circle focused on commentary, lore analysis, and beginner’s guides, with most of its output centered on Horus Heresy, the sci-fi tabletop wargame set in the 31st millennium roughly 10,000 years before the events of the current Warhammer 40,000 setting. For over ten years, the channel released videos celebrating the hobby as well as content sharply critical of Games Workshop’s pricing, rules, and corporate policies. The relationship with the publisher soured in recent months after Macca received DMCA takedowns targeting 3D-printing designs of miniatures sold on the website Cults 3D, igniting a broader debate over the legality of selling such designs and how closely they mirrored Games Workshop’s official products.

In the video, Macca said he had finally decided to walk away, describing a long accumulation of frustration that he felt no longer served him or his audience.
“I’m arguing with idiots. And over the years I’ve been on YouTube, I’ve received death threats, I’ve received attempted doxxing, I’ve received all sorts of rude behavior. And to be honest I don’t care. I have nothing I can really offer at this point.”

Macca said he had spent years attempting to fill gaps in Games Workshop’s product range by manufacturing his own model lines, only to give them away for free once he had sold enough to recost the effort. He insisted the endeavor was never about financial gain, noting that he charged less than others offering similar designs, and described a core moral objection to the company’s practices.
“I believe they’re doing the wrong thing by a community that supported them through the good times and the bad and got them to where they are today. And they take it for granted. And they will kill a game system if they think there is a dollar to be made in making a new game system.”

As a former plastics industry manufacturer, Macca said he could speak to the pricing of the miniatures firsthand, though he acknowledged that such arguments rarely landed with viewers already committed to the hobby. He said he had been in contact with Games Workshop’s intellectual property staff “to see if we can come to some sort of understanding,” but offered no indication that the takedowns would be lifted or that he would resume producing Horus Heresy designs.
A Larger Conflict Over 3D Printing
The closure of The Outer Circle sits within a wider friction between Games Workshop and portions of the Warhammer community over the publisher’s stance on 3D printing. This year, several creators have reported DMCA takedowns as part of what critics describe as an escalating campaign against 3D-printed content. The UK-based company has a long-standing reputation for aggressive intellectual property enforcement, spanning everything from video games that look like Warhammer 40,000 to its ownership of the phrase “Space Marines.”
Macca’s comments underscore how deeply divisive the issue has become even among devoted fans, with some fiercely defending Games Workshop’s actions and others siding with the creator. Games Workshop rarely comments on stories of this nature, and there was no immediate indication the company would make one available.

In a follow-up post on The Outer Circle’s Patreon, Macca reiterated that his decision was rooted in principle rather than profit, and warned against the culture of hostility that had accompanied his time in the public eye.
“I have no want for money, it was always a moral question… I’ve received numerous death threats over the years, attempts at doxxing, and I have a family to worry about. I’m not actually threatened by sweaty nerds on the internet, but why go through needless stress?”
