Get ready to carve your own path in the upcoming reboot of Playground Games’ beloved Fable franchise! But how much time will you need to truly experience everything this new adventure has to offer? The developers have shed some light on the estimated playtime, giving us a clearer picture of what awaits.

Main Quest vs. Open-World Freedom

During a Q&A session at Gamescom 2026, associate game director Will Kennedy revealed that the main story campaign in Fable is expected to take approximately 15-20 hours to complete. However, for those eager to delve deeper into the world of Albion and uncover its secrets, there’s a wealth of side content and open-world exploration waiting to be discovered, estimated to take another 15-20 hours.

Craig Littler, another associate game director, emphasized the limitless possibilities within the game. “As Will just said, you can literally play it forever if that’s what you want to do,” he stated, highlighting the depth and replayability of Fable.

A Nod to the Original

Chris T. had a chance to spend some time with Fable prior to its release, and his impressions were overwhelmingly positive. “Although it comes with plenty of caveats, it really was fantastic,” he wrote. He described the reboot as “silly, crass, British, beautiful, systemic, and maybe a little overambitious” – qualities that perfectly capture the spirit of the original Fable.

The promise of 1,000 unique, romanceable, morality-driven NPCs is certainly ambitious, but it also speaks to the depth of character interaction that Playground Games aims to deliver. This first look offers some promise that Playground can deliver on its vision, and more importantly, that its developers truly understand what makes Fable so special.

Fable launches on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on February 27th, 2027. Get ready to embark on your own legendary journey!
