The much-anticipated Beta version of Shotcut’s latest update, v26.6, is now available for download. This release promises the standard array of bug fixes, along with some exciting new features such as OpenFX & VST2 Plugin support.
After years of user requests, OpenFX plugin integration has finally been incorporated into Shotcut, marking the adoption of the open-standard API for creating 2D visual effects. Previously, Shotcut primarily relied on the frei0r plug-in API for video effects, which was found to be somewhat restrictive due to its inability to support advanced commercial tools.
VST2, a widely recognized format for audio effects, is now also supported. This addition allows users to apply a wide range of advanced tools including vocal compressors, equalizers, de-essers, and noise-removal tools like iZotope or ReaPlugs.
Shotcut, a widely embraced open‑source video editor, remains a favorite among creators who seek a cost‑effective alternative to pricey, subscription‑based suites like Adobe Premiere Pro. Since its launch in 2004, the program has steadily evolved, adding native multi‑format timeline editing, 4K output, chroma keying, webcam capture, audio spectrum analysis, and sophisticated keyframe controls.
