Beat Saber’s “Biggest Update Ever” Brings Hand-Tracking and a Bare-Fisted New Mode in Spring 2027

September 24, 2026 · Gamer24H Editorial Team

The rhythm-action VR hit Beat Saber is set to receive what its developers are calling the game’s “biggest update ever,” arriving in Spring 2027 with a brand-new hand-tracking system and a completely new mode that ditches the iconic laser sabers for bare-fisted note-slamming. The announcement, released by Beat Saber’s creators, outlines a sweeping overhaul that adds a new “Flux” mode, refreshes the campaign with a light narrative element, and introduces a cosmetic progression system — marking the largest single content drop the long-running title has seen since its 2019 debut.

At the heart of the update is Flux, a mode that fundamentally reimagines the core Beat Saber loop. Instead of slicing notes with glowing sabers, players wield their own hands, punching, prodding, and slapping their way through note targets. The developers describe the experience as essentially an unarmed build of the franchise, promising a fresh and — if not less physically demanding — engaging rhythm experience.

A New Mode Built Around Hand Tracking

Flux doubles as the showcase for Beat Saber’s new hand-tracking capability, which will be added to the game as part of the update and can also be applied to the traditional saber-based modes for players who want to try it. According to the official announcement, players will “wield Flux Powers like the Flux Tether, which channels power between your palms to slice through notes in time with the beat.” That power also surges to the player’s left and right hands, which are then used to punch through other note targets. Destroying notes builds up “Jolt” energy, and squeezing the fists while slicing triggers a Jolt to earn big scores.

While the mode is playable with controllers, the hand-tracking feature represents a meaningful technical expansion for the game. Flux will launch with support for 35 songs, drawing from a mix of licensed tracks across the existing Original Soundtracks, Extras, and Anniversary packs, alongside original compositions from Beat Team’s in-house songsmiths Jaroslav Beck and Zakka G.

Campaign Refresh and Progression System

Beyond the new mode, Beat Saber’s campaign is being “refreshed” with new missions, added checkpoints, and — most intriguingly — a light narrative element woven into the experience. The developers have not yet detailed the story’s scope, though the addition of a narrative layer to a primarily mechanical rhythm game signals a deliberate push toward deeper engagement. The campaign update will also provide new opportunities to earn cosmetic rewards.

Rounding out the update is a progression system that allows skilled notebashers to unlock new cosmetic looks for sabers, beats, and bombs. This addition aims to give returning players a fresh incentive to keep playing and experimenting with the game’s extensive customization options, which have long been a cornerstone of the Beat Saber community.

Looking Ahead

Despite the scale of the announcement, the developers appear confident that Beat Saber does not need to rely on external hardware hype to justify the update. The title, which released in 2019, remains one of the most-played VR games on the platform, sustained by regular song additions and a robust modding community. The update is expected to run well on the Frame’s standalone VR mode, broadening its accessibility across different hardware setups.

With hand-tracking support, a new mode, a refreshed campaign, and a progression system all arriving together, this update positions Beat Saber as more than just a rhythm game receiving a content patch — it is a statement about the franchise’s ambition to evolve while preserving the core experience that has kept players returning for years.
