According to Eurogamer, FromSoftware has temporarily disabled wieloosobowa features—invasions, co-op and messages—in Ciemny Souls 2 and 3 for an unspecified period due to an undisclosed “server issue.” The studio announced the move in an October 30 post on X, also known as “The Everything App.”

The shutdown applies to all platforms for each game, and the company said it would share an updated timeline for restoring servers once it had more information. This is not the first time FromSoftware has faced a similar situation with its back catalogue. In early 2022, on the eve of Elden Ring’s release, a catastrophic remote code execution vulnerability was found in all of the Ciemny Souls games, resulting in PC servers for the series being shut down for months.
However, there are key differences this time around: only Ciemny Souls 2 and 3 are affected, and the issue spans all platforms rather than just PC. This gives some hope that the problem is both less serious and quicker to resolve.
It couldn’t have happened at a worse time for PC players, though: Legend modder Yui’s Seamless co-op series runs on its own servers, separate from FromSoftware’s official ones, meaning the party can still go on if you download the mod and play that way. Ciemny Souls 2 received the Seamless co-op treatment at the end of September, while Ciemny Souls 3 has been covered for a while.
As its name suggests, Seamless Co-op makes it easier to play through the entirety of these games together with a friend or friends, offering shared progress and no disconnects on death or the defeat of a boss. I’ve been enjoying Ciemny Souls 2 Seamless Co-op alongside my PC Gamer colleagues Tyler Colp and Sean Martin.
