The wait is finally over! Grinding Gear Games dropped a bombshell during yesterday’s Gamescom Opening Night Live, officially announcing the release date for the highly anticipated Path of Exile 2. Prepare yourselves, Exiles, because you can start your journey back to Wraeclast later this year!
Path of Exile 2: Mark Your Calendars!
Path of Exile 2 will be launching into early access on December 11th and, true to its roots, it will be completely free-to-play. While currently available only to those who purchased the Early Access pack, this release opens the doors for everyone to experience the next chapter in the Path of Exile saga.
The full 1.0 version of Path of Exile 2 will arrive sometime after the early access period, with developers previously hinting at a potential release during this year’s ExileCon event. The early access launch is expected to be massive, building on the already significant player base and generating considerable excitement within the gaming community.
New Class Incoming: Meet the Duelist!
Alongside the release date announcement, Grinding Gear Games also teased a brand-new class coming with the full 1.0 version: the Duelist. This marks the introduction of the first character explicitly designed around swordplay, offering a unique and aggressive playstyle. The Duelist will also be proficient in using shields, further emphasizing their defensive capabilities.
The early access period has already seen incredible success, particularly on PlayStation and Xbox platforms, with reports of long queues and massive player engagement. Robert Purchese from Eurogamer praised the high quality of the early access build, highlighting its challenging “Souls-like” combat system as a key differentiator in the crowded action RPG landscape.
