Rockstar Games is raising the stakes in Grand Theft Auto 6, not just with its stunning visuals and sprawling open world, but also with a sophisticated new system that adds depth to your criminal endeavors. Following the highly anticipated gameplay reveal on Netflix, Rockstar has shed light on one of GTA 6’s most intriguing features: the Criminal Profile system.
The Price of Crime: More Than Just Stars
Building upon the familiar Wanted level system from previous Grand Theft Auto titles and drawing inspiration from the Honor system in Red Dead Redemption 2, the Criminal Profile system in GTA 6 tracks how violently you approach your criminal activities. While evading the police will still involve changing vehicles, altering clothing, or simply running away, the severity of your initial crime and subsequent actions directly influences this dynamic system.
As co-studio head Rob Nelson Rob Nelson told IGN“>told IGN, “This is a story about a couple on the run. We have tried to make the systems and the design support our narrative when and wherever possible.” This means that choosing to simply hit and run, commit a crime, and then quietly disappear before the police arrive will result in a less severe Criminal Profile than engaging in a full-blown shootout.
Choices Matter: Escalation is Optional
Nelson emphasized that this system isn’t designed to force players into being “good guys.” Instead, it serves as a tracker of your overall approach to crime. As he stated, “We tried to design the game so that you have options,” and “things can escalate quite quickly if you want them to, or people who don’t want to escalate can try to avoid it.” This allows players to tailor their gameplay experience, whether they prefer a stealthy approach or embrace the chaos of a high-octane chase.
For fans of role-playing as criminals in Red Dead Redemption 2 or those familiar with the immersive experiences found on GTA Online’s NoPixel servers, this Criminal Profile system promises to add a new layer of depth and consequence to your actions. Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on November 19, a date reaffirmed by Rockstar in response to response to recent gameplay leaks“>recent gameplay leaks.
