The highly anticipated extended preview of Netflix’s Grand Theft Auto 6 has finally dropped, and the internet is buzzing. While players are reveling in new details about Rockstar Games’ upcoming masterpiece, a surprising point of contention has emerged: the voice acting for Jason Duval, one of the game’s co-leading antiheroes.
Jason’s Voice: A Bane-Like Controversy
A common refrain on social media is that Jason’s dialogue can be difficult to decipher. This has inevitably drawn comparisons to Tom Hardy’s famously muffled performance as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. Whether Rockstar will address this issue, perhaps mirroring Christopher Nolan’s decision to adjust Bane’s audio for the theatrical release, remains to be seen. However, the general consensus online seems to lean against altering Jason’s vocal delivery.
Despite this minor hiccup, much of the feedback regarding GTA 6 has been overwhelmingly positive. Players are excited about features like the ability to interact with dogs, the return of six-star wanted levels, and the innovative gameplay mechanics that allow players to seamlessly switch between controlling Jason and his partner-in-crime, Lucia Caminos.
The Shadow of Leaks
Prior to the preview event, Rockstar Games expressed their disappointment regarding recent leaks, calling them “heartbreaking for our team.” The company has a history of aggressively pursuing legal action against those who leak unreleased content, having previously identified and sued a previous GTA 6 leaker. The identity of the current leaker remains unknown.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19th. The game promises to be a landmark achievement in open-world gaming, even if Jason’s voice might require subtitles for some players.
