The hunt for the individual or group responsible for leaking gameplay footage of Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 has intensified. Since August 18th, a leak dubbed “Cyberleek” has plagued the internet with unauthorized glimpses into the upcoming title. Now, a potential suspect is emerging from the depths of Discord, raising hopes that justice might be served.
Discord User “stayonthegrindd” Linked to Cyberleek
On August 25th, Vice Cit, an active member of the GTA Forums, published a report based on new evidence shared on Reddit. This report highlighted a Discord user named “stayonthegrindd,” suggesting a possible connection to Cyberleek. The internet sleuths meticulously analyzed the original lengthy Reddit post and tracked Cyberleek’s blockchain activity, uncovering compelling evidence supporting these claims.
The report details how blockchain activities and Discord timestamps were used to analyze the sequence of events. On August 16th, Cyberleek shared the first images of the game’s map. The following day, a notorious basketball gameplay video surfaced on the dark web. Then, on the morning of August 18th, a user named “Cyberleeker” posted the same basketball video on the Dread forum (a Reddit-like platform). Eight hours later, “stayonthegrindd” joined the Grand Theft Auto 6 Discord server. Within minutes, this user shared the very same basketball video and immediately deleted it. This user claimed the footage was from 2026 and asked server members what gameplay they wanted to see. When one member requested “car driving,” “stayonthegrindd” responded that they would soon share car driving gameplay and also hinted at sharing the entire map quickly. Approximately an hour and a half later, the leaked map was uploaded to the blockchain. Two hours after that, the first GTA 6 gameplay video (Jason driving) was uploaded by Cyberleek to the blockchain.
Furthermore, a Discord user claimed that on August 18th, they saw “stayonthegrindd” send them a GTA 6 gameplay video via direct message (DM), which was immediately deleted. This video, later known as the “Gas” video, surfaced days later, on August 23rd, and was also uploaded to the blockchain.
So, who is Cyberleek? What does all this mean? As Vice Cit points out, this timeline is crucial. There are possibilities that “stayonthegrindd” simply found the basketball video online or that this user is a friend of someone within the group possessing the leaked materials and had prior access to them. In either scenario, it’s believed that Take-Two was aware of this information days ago. According to Vice Cit’s assessment, “stayonthegrindd” is either Cyberleek themselves or a member of this group with access to the leaked materials.
Vice Cit, who has experience in digital forensics from their college years, shares my opinion on these findings. The information presented in the Reddit post and the analysis conducted by Vice Cit strongly support the claims that “stayonthegrindd” is either Cyberleek or connected to this group. It appears this individual had access to the leaked materials and saw the gameplay videos before they were uploaded to the blockchain.
At this point, it’s reasonable to assume that Take-Two, law enforcement agencies, and the company’s legal team are aware of this Discord user and their potential connection to Cyberleek. They have likely been investigating for at least a few days. The critical question now is: Will this investigation lead to identifying and apprehending the individuals responsible for the GTA 6 leaks, or will it ultimately prove fruitless?
