Hold onto your helmets, Tarnished! From Software is back with a vengeance, and the hype surrounding their upcoming title, “The Duskbloods,” is absolutely colossal. In fact, it’s so massive that the recent playtest sign-ups dwarfed even those of its predecessor, Elden Ring Nightreign. This news confirms what many suspected: the gaming community is ravenous for more challenging and innovative experiences from the masters of the “Souls” genre.
A Playtest Triumph
Producer Kitao recently revealed that the playtest sign-ups for “The Duskbloods,” a Switch 2 exclusive, exceeded those of Elden Ring Nightreign. Considering that Elden Ring Nightreign was available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S (with PC and last-gen console versions also in development), this is a truly remarkable feat. The fact that “The Duskbloods,” launching exclusively on the relatively new Switch 2, garnered more interest speaks volumes about the anticipation surrounding From Software’s next masterpiece.
While seemingly impossible on paper, there might be a logical explanation for this phenomenon. Elden Ring Nightreign achieved phenomenal success, selling over 5 million copies with its DLC alone moving 2 million copies in under a week. This demonstrated From Software’s ability to craft incredibly engaging and multiplayer-focused “Souls”-like experiences, potentially fueling even greater excitement for “The Duskbloods.”
Despite the overwhelming interest, the initial network test for “The Duskbloods” faced some turbulence, with server issues forcing From Software to cancel the first session. However, this also provided a glimpse of one of the game’s playable characters, Zork, who has already become something of an internet sensation.
GameSpot’s Jake Dekker, after his hands-on preview of “The Duskbloods,” was clearly impressed, stating that he had “never played anything like it” and expressed eagerness to play more. While a release date is yet to be announced, “The Duskbloods” remains highly anticipated for its arrival later this year.
