The Witcher 4 is ‘targeting’ a 2028 release

The Continent is calling once more! While we eagerly await news on The Witcher 3 expansion, CD Projekt Red has finally offered a tantalizing glimpse into the future of the franchise: The Witcher 4. In a pre-Gamescom video message, co-CEO Michał Nowakowski shed some light on the ambitious project and its projected timeline.

“We have more than 150 incredibly talented developers working to create something truly special for you,” Nowakowski revealed. “The Witcher 4 features a huge and immersive open world, intense and action-packed gameplay, and a deep impactful story that we hope will stay with you for a long time. Simply put, this is our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date.”

While details remain scarce, the promise of a sprawling open world and impactful narrative is sure to excite fans eager to return to the world of monsters, magic, and political intrigue.

Patience is a Virtue (Apparently)

The burning question on everyone’s mind: when can we actually get our hands on it? Nowakowski addressed this directly: “That’s the question we’re hearing from you all the time,” he said. “We’re not ready to share an exact date, I can tell you this: The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window.”

That “targeting” caveat is undoubtedly a nod to the lessons learned from previous CD Projekt Red projects, particularly the rocky launch of Cyberpunk 2077. It gives the developers some breathing room and sets realistic expectations for fans.
