Splatoon Raiders has been a blast to play, as I mentioned in my review last month read it here. While other highly anticipated games have kept me from fully diving into its post-game content, the “Bottomless Buffet” mode has always intrigued me. This seemingly endless challenge throws players into increasingly difficult waves of enemies, tasking them with collecting a specific amount of Power Eggs per floor before time runs out.
The Myth of the Bottomless Pit
While theoretically infinite, the “Bottomless Buffet” isn’t truly bottomless. It caps out at 1000 floors. And now, someone has finally reached the end – a monumental achievement that, unfortunately, comes with absolutely no reward.
The feat was documented by 新月, who shared nearly two and a half hours of attempts to conquer floors 998, 999, and 1000 watch the video on YouTube. For those unfamiliar with Splatoon Raiders’ endgame, these attempts likely appear chaotic. The player utilizes a popular strategy: luring enemies into a single point, unleashing devastating damage, then using a charger (a sniper rifle) to eliminate larger threats from a safe distance. Equipped with a Speed Tank and gadgets like a Jump Bomb, Torqscrew, and Blast Boot, the player achieves incredible verticality and crowd control. The Jump Bomb allows for high jumps, the Torqscrew sucks enemies upward, aiding in both movement and damage, and the Blast Bomb freezes enemies in place, creating easy targets.
Despite numerous failed attempts showcased in the video, the final attempt saw the player clear floor 1000 with a mere 11 seconds remaining. However, beyond the chat exploding with excitement, there’s no tangible reward for this accomplishment. While players receive standard EXP and rare weapons typically found on challenging floors, there’s no title, costume, or even dialogue acknowledging this incredible feat. This leaves players wondering why anyone would endure the brutal challenge of clearing all 1000 floors unless they were striving to be the first.
So, congratulations to 新月 for their dedication and skill! And a friendly warning to everyone else: if you’re tackling the “Bottomless Buffet” in Splatoon Raiders, feel free to stop at floor 100. There’s a definite bottom to this seemingly endless mode, and beyond that lies only salmon…and pain.
