South Of Midnight Studio Compulsion Games Has Completed Its Buyback From Xbox

According to Dean Takahashi of GamesBeat, Compulsion Games—renowned for titles such as Contrast, We Happy Few, and South of Midnight—has reclaimed its autonomy following a management buyout that severed ties with its former parent, Xbox.

Earlier this year, rumors surfaced that Compulsion Games and several other studios faced uncertainty amid Xbox’s sweeping restructuring, which slated a 3,200‑job cut across the next year.

Beyond regaining independence, the finalized agreement guarantees that Compulsion Games will keep ownership of its original intellectual properties, ensuring titles such as the BAFTA‑winning South of Midnight stay fully under its stewardship.
