The gaming world is reeling this morning after alleged gameplay footage and a map image of Grand Theft Auto 6 surfaced online. While the authenticity remains unconfirmed, the leaks have ignited a firestorm of discussion and concern within the community. A group calling itself “CyberLeek” appears to be behind the release, issuing demands to Rockstar Games and other publishers regarding the industry’s increasing reliance on digital distribution.
The Leaks: What We’re Seeing
Two videos have emerged, purportedly showing GTA 6 gameplay. One clip features the protagonist, Jason, playing basketball outside his home, while another shows him driving a car and engaging in an altercation with an NPC. An image claiming to be the complete map of the game has also been circulating online. The leaks come just days before the release of “Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look,” a timed Netflix exclusive set to premiere on Thursday, August 27th. This extended look will remain exclusive to Netflix for six hours before being made available on other platforms like YouTube.
CyberLeek: Demands and Threats
The leaks are linked to a group calling themselves “CyberLeek,” who have posted a manifesto on a website associated with the leaked assets. The manifesto criticizes the increasing reliance on digital distribution in the gaming industry, specifically mentioning the lack of a physical disc for GTA 6, drawing parallels to the controversy surrounding Ubisoft’s “The Crew.” CyberLeek goes on to threaten other video game publishers, warning that if they can target Rockstar, no one is safe. The group demands that publishers “behave” or risk becoming the next target.
“Publishers should beware,” the manifesto concludes. “If CyberLeek can reach Rockstar, no one is safe. This is a message to all big corpo: behave, or be the next target.”
Rockstar’s History with Leaks
This isn’t the first time GTA 6 has been plagued by leaks. In 2022, a massive security breach resulted in the release of over 90 videos and images from an early version of the game. “We take leaks very seriously indeed,” said Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick at the time. “They’re really frustrating and upsetting to the team.” The British teenager responsible was recently released from indefinite imprisonment at a secure hospital and is now awaiting a retrial.
In December 2023, the first GTA 6 trailer leaked on X/Twitter less than 24 hours before its scheduled premiere. Rockstar officially posted the trailer on YouTube early in response. Developers took to social media to express their frustration with the leak, which Zelnick later called “disappointing.” In April of this year, Rockstar confirmed that company information was accessed as part of a third-party data breach, but insisted it had “no impact” on the organization or its players.
The Future of GTA 6
GTA 6 is currently slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. The authenticity of these latest leaks remains unconfirmed, but Rockstar and Take-Two are reportedly working to remove the leaked content from online platforms. IGN has reached out to both companies for comment.
