Pokémon Announces It’s Ending Support For Bank Storage App

Transferring Pokémon between titles has long been a cumbersome affair, prompting The Pokémon Company to develop Pokémon Home—a unified cloud repository—to simplify the process. Prior to Home, two 3DS applications—Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter—enabled users to move Pokémon from their DS to the 3DS, bridging generations from Game Boy Advance to the Switch 2. Today, the company announced that support for those legacy apps will be discontinued.

Alongside this announcement, the company confirmed that the recently released FireRed and LeafGreen Switch ports will receive Home integration in October, giving players the ability to transfer Pokémon captured in the GBA titles to any Home‑compatible game.

Pokémon Bank’s service will terminate on February 25, 2027, at 7 p.m. Pacific/10 p.m. Eastern. The announcement urges owners of Pokémon wishing to migrate them to act swiftly, noting that the app is no longer available for download since the 3DS online infrastructure was shut down in 2024. Consequently, only users who had previously redeemed the app from the eShop before 2024 can still access it.

According to Serebii, Pokémon Bank will cease functioning and its connection to Pokémon Home on February 26, 2027, meaning Pokémon can no longer be stored in it or linked to Home thereafter.

The long‑anticipated ability to move Pokémon between titles has lost its allure since Sword and Shield halted cross‑game trades—a decision that sparked the community backlash dubbed “Dexit.” Even after widespread online outcry, Game Freak appears resolute in keeping the National Dex, which would have let every species travel between games, from the back. Players have relied on Pokémon Bank to ferry relics from older hardware into contemporary titles, and the impending discontinuation feels like a slice of legacy being erased. It’s disheartening that the sole conduit linking legacy systems to the present is being retired.

Moreover, as the 3DS’s servers were phased out, Pokémon Bank and Transporter stood alone in preserving online connectivity. With the latest declaration, that last bastion of 3DS online activity is now coming to an end.
