Capcom drops Monster Hunter Stories 3 story DLC featuring fan-favorite character

Capcom has revealed a fresh story expansion for Monster Hunter Stories 3, which is already available to players.

During a Thursday livestream, the studio announced “Additional Side Story: Rudy,” a $9.99 add‑on that can be purchased on every platform, while owners of the Deluxe and Premium Deluxe Editions receive it at no extra cost.

Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, famed for MHS3: Twisted Reflection, introduced the expansion and highlighted its exploration of the Royal Felyne’s ancestry.

Capcom described the narrative: “In this DLC side story, Rudy stumbles into a strange situation that unexpectedly brings him face‑to‑face with Navirou, the legendary Felyne who once saved the world in Monster Hunter Stories.”

In the course of Rudy and Navirou’s adventurous journey, players will meet the formidable Nergigante, yet this towering Elder Dragon is just one of many tough foes awaiting them in Monster Hunter Stories 3.

In addition to the story DLC, Capcom has rolled out a complimentary update that brings Royal Monsters into play and ramps up the difficulty of the Final Battle for players who have finished their save files.

Capcom announced that defeating the Final Battle on the Hard mode will grant players Royal Monster variants of nearly every creature—ranging from Invasive Monsters to Calamitous Elder Dragons—providing Rangers with an extra layer of difficulty.

VGC recently conducted a comprehensive post‑mortem interview with the Monster Hunter Stories 3 team, delving into the game’s development process, the demographics of JRPG players, their reactions, and additional insights.

Director Kenji Oguro shared his genuine delight with the team’s achievements, telling VGC that the project has exceeded his expectations.

Serving dual roles as both the game’s director and a Capcom department head, Oguro highlighted his guiding principle: cultivate a workplace where hard work coexists with genuine enjoyment. He stresses that while dedication is vital, the creative process should remain fun and free from excessive pressure.

Oguro believes this harmonious balance shines through in the final product. The enthusiasm and joy the team invested are palpable, and early player feedback has praised the game’s lively spirit.
