Xbox Insiders Get 360 Achievements & Gamertag Upgrades

Microsoft is accelerating its rollout of new features for Xbox Insiders, unveiling a fresh batch of enhancements today that will soon be available to users in the Alpha Skip‑Ahead ring.

One of the most noticeable updates expands the character limit for the platform’s iconic Gamertag. Insiders will now be able to create unique usernames up to 15 characters long, a welcome lift from the previous 12‑character ceiling. The older limit will still apply to non‑unique tags or those containing non‑Latin characters.

Perhaps the most compelling addition is the re‑introduction of Xbox 360 achievements into the modern Game Hubs. When a classic title is launched on a current Xbox console, players will instantly see their achievement progress, captured screenshots, and other metadata. The return of achievement pop‑ups for these beloved games is a boon for completionists and nostalgia‑driven gamers alike.

Finally, Microsoft is addressing the frustration of players who must pause to install updates before diving into gameplay. The upcoming change will allow users to launch their games immediately, with updates downloading in the background.

Microsoft has clarified that if a Game Pass title requires a patch, you can launch it immediately via cloud gaming, allowing the update to download in the background while you play.

The latest Insider tweak once again centers on game cards. Insiders will notice that every title—whether already released or still in development—now sports a straightforward “Add to Wishlist” button, simplifying the process from a single location.

The Xbox update is being deployed today to Insiders in the Alpha Skip‑Ahead ring.
