Sega is adding free Classic Sonic and Crazy Taxi DLC to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

Sega has revealed that the next wave of complimentary guest characters will be joining Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

During a livestream marking Sonic’s 35th birthday, the company announced that Classic Sonic—the iconic, slightly bulkier rendition from the original 8‑bit and 16‑bit titles—is now available for free in the game.

Following him, Axel from Crazy Taxi will appear as a free character in August. Based on his attire and design, this seems to be the version from the upcoming Crazy Taxi: World Tour, marking the first CrossWorlds guest to hail from a title that hasn’t yet launched.

In September, Amigo from the Samba de Amigo rhythm series will also join the lineup, bringing the total count of free Sega guest characters to 13.

Sega’s promise ahead of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ launch was clear: new guest characters would drop into the game every month at no cost.

True to that pledge, the title has already welcomed a diverse lineup of free guests, including Hatsune Miku, Joker from Persona, Ichiban Kasuga from Like a Dragon, NiGHTS, AiAi from Super Monkey Ball, Tangle and Whisper from the IDW Sonic comic series, Red from Angry Birds, Goro Majima from Like a Dragon, and Arle from Puyo Puyo.

Beyond the free roster, the game offers paid DLC packs that bring in non‑Sega IPs. Four of the six Year 1 packs have already arrived, featuring Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, Pac‑Man, and Mega Man characters, along with new vehicles and tracks.

Looking ahead, the next two packs are slated for release: the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bundle on July 29, which will add all four turtles, followed by an Avatar pack in October that introduces Aang and Katara.

At this year’s Summer Game Fest, Sega revealed that the title will receive a Year‑2 pass, adding six new DLC collaborations. The first two collaborations will feature the legendary kaiju Godzilla and the iconic mecha series Evangelion, underscoring a bold strategy to keep the game fresh and draw in fresh audiences.
