Tim Cook Warns of Apple Price Hikes Amid Memory Shortage

Over the past year, global shortages of memory and semiconductor chips have pushed consumer electronics prices higher, and industry insiders warn that the trend is set to continue. Apple’s chief executive, Tim Cook, has openly acknowledged that the company will raise the prices of several upcoming devices to reflect the escalating costs of memory and storage.

In a candid conversation with the Wall Street Journal, Cook confirmed that price increases are “unavoidable” and that Apple has been striving to shield customers from the full brunt of the supply crunch. He explained that the company is actively working to mitigate the steep cost spikes that are being passed on to consumers, but the situation has reached a point where further price hikes are inevitable.

Cook also highlighted the role of the burgeoning artificial‑intelligence sector in exacerbating the chip shortage, noting that a significant share of available memory is being diverted to AI firms.
