Capcom has unveiled that the first expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2, titled Dark Arisen, will introduce a fresh narrative and a host of new content, all crafted in response to extensive player feedback.

During a recent Nintendo Direct, the company announced that Dark Arisen will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time, while also hitting PS5, Xbox, and PC on October 9.

Analysis: The simultaneous multi‑platform release, including the Switch 2, signals Capcom’s intent to broaden the franchise’s reach and tap into both console and PC audiences, potentially boosting cross‑platform sales and community engagement.

Capcom emphasized that the paid expansion is designed to enhance accessibility and deliver a richer experience, aiming to satisfy long‑time fans as well as newcomers to the series.

Dragon’s Dogma 2, which launched in March 2024, earned a robust critical acclaim, boasting a Metacritic score of 86. Yet, the game’s reception among the broader player base was uneven, reflected in a more modest user rating of 6.5.

When VGC interviewed the series’ director, Hideaki Itsuno, last year, he admitted that the mixed response was anticipated. “I crafted the game to appeal to a specific niche rather than to everyone,” Itsuno explained. “It’s perfectly normal for those outside that target demographic to feel disconnected, but the fans who embraced it were genuinely thrilled with the depth and polish.”

Itsuno is now spearheading a new “triple‑A action” title at Lightspeed Japan. The studio has recently unveiled a second Japanese branch in Osaka—the historic home of Capcom—and is bringing on board a cadre of former Devil May Cry and Street Fighter veterans.
