Square Enix is set to launch a fresh entry in the Final Fantasy saga, this time embracing the signature HD‑2D visual style that has become a hallmark of recent titles from the studio.
Scheduled for a global debut on October 22 across PlayStation 5, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch, and the forthcoming Switch 2, Final Fantasy Resonance promises players the chance to call upon legendary heroes from earlier installments—think Cloud from Final Fantasy VII—in its turn‑based combat system.
Rooted in the first season of the mobile title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, the console adaptation promises a comprehensive overhaul, offering a richer, more expansive experience than a simple port or remake would allow.
According to Square Enix’s official description, this HD‑2D adventure marks the franchise’s inaugural entry in the style, delivering the classic turn‑based battles that have defined the series.
Final Fantasy Resonance delivers a tactical combat framework paired with an emotionally charged narrative, complete with cinematic cutscenes and fully voiced dialogue. Players can also explore a sprawling world aboard chocobos and airships, adding a layer of freedom to the strategic gameplay.
Square Enix has woven a heartfelt homage to the franchise’s legacy by introducing “visions” of iconic figures such as Cloud, Terra, and Clive. These legendary characters can be recruited into the roster, each bringing their own signature abilities to the battlefield.
The soundtrack, curated by Elements Garden under the direction of Noriyasu Agematsu, features 33 freshly recorded pieces alongside tracks from Brave Exvius, enriching the auditory experience with a blend of original compositions and familiar themes.
