Just before today’s Nintendo Direct, Square Enix unveiled a fresh trailer announcing that the celebrated Final Fantasy X/X‑2 HD Remaster will soon launch on the Switch 2.

The remastered collection brings together the 2001 classic Final Fantasy X and its 2003 sequel, Final Fantasy X‑2, both originally released on the PS2. Since its debut, the compilation has appeared on a wide array of platforms: PS3 and Vita in 2013, PS4 in 2015, and PC in 2016.

In 2019, the remaster finally reached Nintendo and Microsoft audiences with releases on the Switch and Xbox One, marking the first time the duo of games was available on those ecosystems.

Square Enix has now confirmed that the Switch 2 will be the next console to receive the title, with the two‑game bundle slated for release on Nintendo’s current‑generation hardware on July 23.

Analysis: The July 23 launch positions the Switch 2 as a key platform for revitalizing a beloved franchise, potentially driving early sales and boosting the console’s appeal to both nostalgic fans and new players seeking high‑quality RPGs.

Square Enix has revealed that the upcoming Switch 2 edition of the title will feature a host of enhancements—some of which may already appear in other platform releases.

The promotional video directs viewers to a pre‑order page on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop. Although the page isn’t yet visible on Nintendo’s main website, it can be accessed directly from the Switch 2 console.

According to the eShop listing, the Switch 2 version will retail for $49.99, matching the current price of the Switch edition. However, the store notes that “save data is incompatible between the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions.”

At present, it remains unclear whether Switch 2 owners will receive a free or paid upgrade, or if they will need to repurchase the full game to enjoy it on the new hardware.
