Gears of War & Clockwork Revolution Console Exclusives on Xbox Permanent, Not Time-Limited

Xbox has clarified that its newly announced titles, Gears of War: E‑Day and Clockwork Revolution, will remain exclusive to its own consoles and will not be offered as timed exclusives on competing platforms.

Analysis: By confirming these games will not appear on the PS5, Xbox is reinforcing its strategy to deepen platform loyalty and differentiate its lineup, potentially driving console sales and subscription growth.

In a separate statement, the company assured that other titles already slated for cross‑platform releases—such as Halo: Campaign Evolved and Forza Horizon 6—will continue to launch on multiple systems as originally planned.

“As part of our focus on the return of Xbox, we also announced that Gears of War: E‑Day and Clockwork Revolution will be Xbox console exclusives,” the statement read. “These are not timed exclusives. Games already announced for multiplatform releases will stick to that plan – we’re committed to investing in and growing Xbox both on console and beyond.”

In recent years, games that once glowed exclusively on Xbox—such as the adventurous Indiana Jones and the expansive Starfield—have gradually crossed over to the PS5, albeit months later.

Now, the tide is turning again. Following a bold declaration by Xbox chief executive Asha Sharma that the platform “must have exclusive content and services,” the company has announced a fresh wave of titles that will remain locked to Xbox consoles.

Sharma’s message, posted on social media after the Xbox Games Showcase, emphasized that the brand’s future hinges on delivering standout games and experiences that compel players to choose Xbox. “We want people to choose Xbox because of great games and experiences. That also means giving you something that was made for Xbox,” she wrote.

Among the newly announced exclusives are Gears of War: E‑Day and Clockwork Revolution, both slated to debut exclusively on Xbox consoles, underscoring the company’s commitment to a distinct, high‑quality library.

During a Bloomberg Live session earlier this week, Sharma revisited her earlier remarks about Xbox’s intent to “re-evaluate its approach to exclusivity.”

“It’s a tough topic,” she explained onstage. “Look, we’re the number two publisher in the world, and to excel, we need our games to reach vast audiences.”

“At the same time, we’re increasingly becoming a platform, and to thrive as one, we must offer exclusive content and services. That’s why we’re scrutinizing this closely.”

She added, “We have to be very thoughtful about each title, consider how we want to position it, and learn from similar cases in the industry. That’s what we’re doing.”
