In a bold move that coincides with this month’s World Cup, FIFA is poised to release its first major home football title since parting ways with Electronic Arts.
Dubbed a “streamlined football simulation game,” FIFA World Cup 2026 will debut exclusively on Netflix on June 11. Subscribers can access the title at no additional cost, and the game supports up to four players who can use their smartphones as controllers.
The title lets players pick from any of the 48 national squads competing in the World Cup, battle across 16 authentic stadiums, and command a roster of 1,248 professional athletes.
“Immerse yourself in the pride of representing your nation, step onto real‑life stadiums, and execute breathtaking plays with the world’s elite athletes—all without leaving Netflix,” the company announced.
FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition marks a bold new chapter for the iconic football franchise, celebrating the passion and exhilaration of the sport. Designed to be swift, seamless, and enjoyable, it invites up to four friends to dive into matches together—whether you’re a seasoned gamer or a casual fan.
Netflix has announced that this month’s “Launch Edition” will start as a streamlined experience, with plans to expand and evolve the game over time.
In a significant shift, FIFA severed its nearly three-decade partnership with EA in 2023. FIFA 23 was the final EA Sports title to carry the FIFA name before the brand transitioned to EA Sports FC.
FIFA’s president, Gianni Infantino, has long hinted at the organization’s intent to develop a competing title with a new collaborator. The partnership with streaming powerhouse Netflix materialized as the chosen platform for this new venture.
