1047 Games has just dropped the latest scoop on its upcoming early‑access title, EMPULSE, slated for a deeper dive this weekend at the PC Gaming Show.

After a rocky year in which Splitgate and its sequel struggled to find traction in the crowded free‑to‑play arena, the studio is pivoting away from Halo‑style shooters and embracing a wall‑running mech‑combat experience.

So far, the new visuals are slick, and the fresh details revealed ahead of the show have me feeling cautiously optimistic about the gameplay.

“Our dream has always been to be a multi‑game studio, and this is the kind of game we love making: a fast, arcade‑style FPS that rewards player expression and skill,” the studio explained. “That is the type of gameplay we love, and EMPULSE is the purest version of that idea we have built so far. We have a lot of Titanfall fans on this team, and we have heard a lot of the same from our community over the years. More movement. More verticality. More ways to express yourself in a fight. EMPULSE is our answer to that.”

Analysis: By shifting focus to a mech‑based, wall‑running shooter, 1047 Games is carving a niche that could attract players fatigued by traditional first‑person shooters, potentially revitalizing its brand and opening new revenue streams in the early‑access market.

According to the developers, a single mech in the right hands can dominate an entire round. Yet, the game rewards teamwork: when a crew focuses on bringing that mech down, they can swing momentum back and launch a decisive counter‑push. Playtests have shown that squads rallying to eliminate a mech and immediately converting that kill into a match‑turning push is among the most exhilarating moments the team has experienced.

While I’m keeping an open mind, the game’s premise is undeniably compelling. I’ve added it to my Steam wishlist and look forward to more details this weekend ahead of its early access launch later this year.
