OneDrive is getting a powerful file rename feature soon

Microsoft’s OneDrive continues to evolve, adding new tools that streamline file management and boost productivity. Among the latest enhancements is a Copilot‑powered feature that automatically suggests context‑aware file names for uploads, promising to save users time and reduce the tedium of manual renaming.

The rename prompts appear as toast notifications immediately after a file is uploaded or when a user initiates a manual rename. Currently, Suggested Rename supports a range of file types, ensuring broad applicability across everyday OneDrive usage.

Microsoft plans to introduce a new “Suggested Rename” feature to the OneDrive web interface in June 2026. While the roadmap confirms the upcoming capability, it’s important to remember that roadmap entries are not final commitments; the feature could evolve, face delays, or even be shelved before it reaches the public.
