In April, Anthropic unveiled Claude Opus 4.7, its newest flagship model that sharpened its abilities in tackling intricate software engineering challenges. Today, the company has rolled out Claude Opus 4.8, a direct successor that promises broader gains across coding, agentic tasks, reasoning, and knowledge work.
Claude Opus 4.8 is now live across all Claude endpoints, and developers can tap into it via the Claude API using the model name claude-opus-4-8. Standard usage rates remain unchanged at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens.
Anthropic has also slashed the price of its fast mode. The accelerated version of Opus 4.8 can operate up to 2.5 times faster, yet it now costs only $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens—three times less than the previous fast mode pricing.
In its announcement, Anthropic highlighted reliability as a key improvement in Opus 4.8. The new model is reported to be roughly four times less prone than Opus 4.7 to allow errors in its own generated code to slip through unnoticed. Additionally, Opus 4.8 shows markedly lower rates of misaligned behavior compared to its predecessor.
Anthropic has unveiled a groundbreaking feature for its Claude Code platform: dynamic workflows. Looking ahead, Anthropic confirmed that Mythos‑class models will soon be rolled out to all customers, broadening access to its most advanced language capabilities.
