Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Debuts on Oct. 23, Emphasizing PC Gaming & Nintendo Switch 2 Compatibility

In an exciting development for the gaming industry, Activision and Infinity Ward have unveiled “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4,” slated for release on October 23, 2026. The anticipated title will be available on a wide array of platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the yet-to-be-released Nintendo Switch 2. Notably, it will not be launching on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

The campaign for “Modern Warfare 4” is set against the backdrop of a full-scale invasion of South Korea by North Korea. Players assume the role of Private Park, a young South Korean soldier, while Captain Price embarks on his own covert mission post-“Modern Warfare III.” The campaign promises immersive missions in various locations such as Korea, New York, Paris, Mumbai, and occupied urban zones.

In a significant development for the gaming industry, Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be making its way to Nintendo Switch 2, marking the return of the Modern Warfare series to Nintendo hardware after over a decade. The game is being developed in collaboration with Infinity Ward and Digital Legends, ensuring a native Switch 2 version rather than a cloud-only release.

While preorders for the Switch 2 are yet to be announced, Activision has hinted at sharing more details, including preorder timing, later this summer. This move signifies an expansion of Microsoft’s post-acquisition Call of Duty platform strategy, extending beyond PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

Upon launch, Modern Warfare 4 will feature 12 core maps, dedicated Gunfight maps, and multiple Big War maps. Infinity Ward is also introducing Kill Block, a versatile training facility with over 500 possible layouts. The studio has made several improvements under the new “Ballistic Authority” system, including the removal of bloom, enhanced recoil, convergence, weapon handling, stance, camera behavior, audio propagation, FOV, and target visibility.

Additionally, DMZ, an extraction mode, is making a comeback. Activision describes it as a dynamic combat zone with shifting weather conditions, military objectives, hostile forces, and extraction-focused missions. A first look at DMZ is scheduled for June 7.

Activision has announced a significant shift for the popular battle royale, “Call of Duty: Warzone.” Beginning with Season 1 of “Modern Warfare 4,” the game will be discontinued on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Players will be unable to download new content after June 4, and the in‑game store will be shut down on June 25.
