Marathon Season 2 is set to launch with a week of free-to‑play across every platform, giving newcomers a chance to dive into the extraction shooter on a clean slate.
In Australia, the free‑to‑play window runs from 3 June to 10 June, while players in the United States, Canada and Europe can enjoy it from 2 June to 9 June. PC users can jump straight in, whereas Xbox and PlayStation players will need an active Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus subscription to access online multiplayer.
During the Open Play Week, the complete game will be available on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with all progress carried forward into Season 2. Bungie highlighted that this is an ideal moment to rally friends, as everyone will start from a fresh baseline.
Players will sample a significant portion of Season 2’s content—new maps, a fresh Sentinel shell, upgraded weapons, and revamped progression systems—though the endgame Cryo Archive map will remain locked until 12 June, a few days after the free‑to‑play period concludes.
Fans of the free‑to‑play title will also be disappointed to learn that the upcoming updates—including new PvE modes—will not be accessible during the current week.
