Valve has just announced a significant price hike for the Steam Deck, marking the handheld’s latest shift in its pricing strategy. Both variants now carry a steep increase of more than 40%.

Analysis: This move underscores Valve’s confidence in the Steam Deck’s continued demand, while also aligning its price point with premium handheld competitors. The adjustment may influence purchasing decisions and could prompt a surge in pre‑orders as the device re‑enters full availability.

Effective immediately, the 512‑GB OLED edition will retail at $789 USD (₣1,129 CAD, €779, £669), while the 1‑TB version will be priced at $949 USD (₣1,349 CAD, €919, £779).

Prior to this announcement, the 512‑GB model was available for $549 USD (£479), and the 1‑TB model sold for $649 USD (£569).

In March, Sony announced a significant price hike across its console lineup, with the flagship PlayStation 5 Pro receiving a $150 bump that now brings its retail price to $900.

Microsoft followed suit earlier this year, raising the prices of its Xbox Series X and Series S twice. The flagship Series X now retails for $649.99, a $150 jump from launch, while the budget-friendly Series S is priced at $399.99, up $100.

The console market is facing unprecedented challenges, with prices soaring and consumers grappling with a higher cost of living. Circana’s data reveals that hardware and software sales in the United States hit their lowest point in November since tracking began. The average price of new video game hardware in the U.S. surged from $235 in November 2019 to $439 in November 2025.
