The contentious PC title Plantation Simulator, once infamous for depicting players whipping Black characters, has been pulled from the Steam storefront after its developer requested its removal.

On May 24, amid a flurry of media coverage and viral backlash, the studio behind the game, FzzyBzzy, posted a final update on its Steam page. The developer explained that they had “said what needed to be said” and were now asking Valve to delist the title.

“Hello friends, lol. We’ve decided to retire this game! We’ve [sic] think we have said what needed to be said. We saw the opportunities and took them. We are reaching out to Steam to take this game off the store page!! We do not know when they’ll be able to address the request, but we hope it is soon!” the developer wrote.

Analysis: The swift delisting underscores how rapidly community backlash can compel platform holders to act, highlighting the growing influence of player sentiment on game availability.

By May 26, SteamDB confirmed that Valve had complied with the request, removing Plantation Simulator from sale. While the game’s page remains visible, it is no longer purchasable, confirming that the removal was indeed initiated by the publisher/developer.
