In today’s generative AI landscape, any leak that becomes public should be treated as a mere leak until proven otherwise. However, there are indications that a remake of the first Persona game may be a long time coming, as footage is now reportedly emerging showing the game in action.
The leaked footage was published yesterday on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit and was originally uploaded to file-sharing website Gofile on Halloween Day, October 31st. Not surprisingly, it is stylistically based heavily on the vibe of the current Persona series and picks up on the visual design that was introduced with Persona 5 and continued through the remakes of Persona 3 and Persona 4.
Persona: Be Your True Mind – gameplay leak from

There isn’t all that much footage to look at – under two minutes in total. One section shows the game’s protagonist walking through a school at night before a battle begins. The combat system also looks like Persona, i.e. turn-based and so on. The color theme here is predominantly purple, which at least fits the series’ 25th anniversary artwork. What is perhaps somewhat unusual is that the protagonist from Persona 2 can be seen in battle; It’s unclear whether this indicates a combination of the two games, that two remakes are being made in parallel and temporarily using assets, or whether it’s simply a strange placeholder solution.

Remakes of Persona 1 and 2 wouldn’t necessarily be a surprise. Ashley recently interviewed series producer Kazuhisa Wada, and he said, “Persona 1 and 2 are things we’ll probably tackle at some point as well.” A mischievous reference from Wada, perhaps? Who knows! In any case, the gameplay shown here looks believable, and Sega is as leaky as a broken faucet (various Persona details have been leaked in the past), so it’s at least worth keeping an eye on, even if you take it with a pinch of salt.
