Alien Isolation 2 will get a physical disc, implying a 2027 release window could be on the table for the anticipated sequel.
As you all know, Sony will cease manufacturing games on disc in January 2028, which means publisher SEGA wouldn’t be able to release a boxed version for the PS5 beyond that date.

While it’s true that, as things stand, physical copies on the Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S could still ship after the deadline, I think the dev’s confidence in this announcement would be a little softer if platform restrictions were going to prevent it from fulfilling its goal on the PS5.
In the embedded social media post, it promises that “staying true to the analogue nature of Alien is one of our core pillars”. I just don’t see how it squares this without planning a 2027 release on PS5, including a physical version.
It’s a real shame Sony’s put its partners in this position, but plenty of recent data has shown the market for physical releases continues to contract. (Even if there is still clearly an addressable market.)
I suppose making this a selling point for Alien Isolation 2 is a perfect representation of the sad state of affairs we currently find ourselves in. However, I do think this confirmation has inadvertently narrowed the survival horror’s release window – although things can always change during development, of course.
