The relationship between these two characters sits at the heart of Yarros’ fantasy romance series, meaning the actors’ performances are seen as pivotal to the show’s success.

McGregor is known for her role as Isabel in A24’s Babygirl, where she worked alongside Nicole Kidman and Antonio Banderas. She also appeared as Tetha Grig, a pink-haired spice dealer, in an episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Notably, she is the daughter of Ewan McGregor.
Sakraya gained recognition for his portrayal of ex-con Giwar Hajabi in the 2022 film Rheingold, and also played JC in the first season of Netflix’s Warrior Nun.
In the books, collectively known as the Empyrean series, Violet Sorrengail is the main protagonist—described as a beautiful but frail girl with a deadly side. Xaden Riorsen is portrayed as a dark, powerful, and misunderstood young man full of secrets. Both characters attend Basgiath War College, where they learn to control powers granted by massive dragons.
The series does not yet have a release date attached. However, it has been confirmed that Meredith Averill will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Rebecca Yarros also serving as executive producer alongside Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society.
While waiting for the TV adaptation to materialize, Yarros is working on book four of the series. She has also collaborated on several tabletop adaptations for the franchise, most recently releasing Threshing Day, a standalone novel exploring the perspectives of various characters on the day they received their dragons.
