The characters and the stage make up the Year One Characters & Stage Pass, although each can also be purchased individually.
In a PlayStation Blog post, producer Takeshi Yamanaka explained why the team selected the Phoenix version of Cyclops, citing new visuals, Optic Blasts, and Dark Phoenix gameplay.
“During those discussions, our narrative team proposed the idea of using the Phoenix version of Cyclops,” Yamanaka said. “We felt this interpretation would allow us to create fresher visuals and a more exciting fighting style while offering something unexpected for players.”
It’s also why he’s DLC and not a day-one fighter. Yamanaka said the team “made the difficult decision to continue working on the character until we felt like we were adding something new”, before releasing him as its first post-launch character.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is out now on PS5 and PC.
