Wizards of the Coast announced at New York Comic Con that Marvel’s Darkhold Destiny will be the first Universes Beyond expansion set for Magic: The Gathering in 2027. The set pairs heroes such as Doctor Strange, Thor, and Ghost Rider against cosmic villains including Hela and Dormammu.
The announcement came during an hour-long panel at the convention, where multiple cards were revealed. Among them are Magic himself, who transforms into Darkchild and Gargantos, along with a card based on the titular Darkhold book.
Darkhold Destiny will be available in normal and Collector booster packs, alongside four pre-constructed commander decks themed around Marvel heroes and villains, including the Midnight Sons. The set launches April 9 at big-box retailers and local game stores.

The expansion tells an original story co-created by designers at both Marvel and Wizards of the Coast. A brand-new character created for this set will be introduced in a new Marvel Infinity comic series starting in February, according to GameSpot’s Mark Delaney.
New mechanics were also detailed during the panel. Vengeance is described as an Adventure-like gameplay feature that lets players cast spells from their graveyard and return the permanent it’s attached to back to the battlefield. The Arcane subtype for spells will also make a return.

The set launches April 9 in big-box retailers and local game stores.
