Developers behind bağlantı”>Gears of War: E-Day have officially dismissed a fan theory dating back roughly two decades to the series, explaining that the franchise’s muscular characters are not the product of heightened planetary gravity.

The eccentricity at issue is that Gears of War is set on Sera, a planet unlike Earth. Though generally Earth-like in composition, Sera has two moons, days lasting 26 hours, and years averaging 440 days; its hollow center is home to a horde of mutants intent on destroying humanity.

The theory holds that these planetary traits mean Sera exerts stronger gravity than Earth, which would also explain why characters can barely jump. Under this logic, higher-than-standard gravitational pressure supposedly forces human bodies to compensate by building enormous muscle mass—hence the characters’ physiques.

“That’s the first time I’ve heard of that,” Gears of War: E-Day art director Aryan Hanbeck told Polygon during an interview at Gamescom 2026. “We’re debunking the gravity.”

The theory has persisted in corners of the fandom for years, frequently appearing alongside claims that COG soldiers such as Marcus and Dom are simply loaded with steroids.

According to Gears of War brand director Nicole Fawcette, the real explanation is far more mundane: food. She said the team provides enough daily rations to individually feed three fully grown adult humans.

“There’s references in the books that they eat like 6,000 calories a day and stuff like that,” Fawcette said. “I think that’s probably more in line than the gravity. Sera is an Earth-like planet, but I don’t think we’ve put any hard lore in terms of a gravitational field.”

Fawcette also pointed to the characters’ armor as a factor.

“[Gears are] carrying the burden of the armor as well. They’re in this giant tank-like armor, so they’re always gonna be a bit bigger than everybody else,” Fawcette said. “That’s the charm of Gears, that character design. That’s something we wanted to maintain.”

Hanbeck added: “We always think that the Gears are a little bit larger than life… If a Gear walked into this room, we’d be like, ‘Oh my God.’ So you know, we want them to feel a little more jacked. It’s part of the mystique.”

The article notes a logical gap in the gravity theory: if Sera’s gravity explains why Gears have massive arms, it does not explain why ordinary civilians remain regular-sized.
