Charlie Cox Confirms He’ll Star in Untitled Sega Game After Expedition 33 Debut

Daredevil: Born Again star Charlie Cox has confirmed he will star in an untitled upcoming game from Sega, according to a report for Polygon.

Cox said the news came during Thursday’s New York Comic Con session with IGN. His debut video game voice work came through Expedition 33 (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33), and by the time of that event he had already finished recording his next project.

The London-born actor said his performance as the New York vigilante Matt Murdock was so convincing that studio staff were surprised when he arrived for a recording session. “I was like, ‘Hi guys, nice to meet you! How are you?’ And all of them went, ‘Oh, he’s English,'” Cox recalled. “They’d wanted [the character] to be American. But now I’ve got to do 40 hours of lines I’ve not prepared in an accent. Yeah, I think they thought I was American.”

Cox previously said his role in Expedition 33 took around four hours to record; writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen later said it was more like eight hours. Based on the roughly 40 hours he spent recording for the Sega game, his new role appears more central than his debut.

Cox said the praise for his Expedition 33 performance made him feel like a “total fraud” given how quickly he recorded his lines as Gustave. He credited motion-capture actor Maxence Cazorla with deserving any recognition, saying at a convention last year that “any nomination or any credit I get, I really have to give to him, because I believe that the performance of that character is really down to him, and my voice was just part of that process.” He was nominated for Best Performance at The Game Awards.

Cox attended New York Comic Con to promote Daredevil: Born Again’s third season, which will also be its last. Premiering next spring, the show will reunite Daredevil with the rest of the Defenders.
