Marvel Studios has officially announced a brand-new live-action series titled Zodiac, confirming that the mysterious spy thriller is headed to Disney Plus with a target arrival sometime in 2028. The reveal came Thursday at New York Comic Con, where Marvel Television pulled back the curtain on one of several projects currently in development as it seeks to revitalize its live-action streaming slate.
The announcement was made by Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television, and animation, who confirmed that production is set to begin shooting in London in spring 2027. Casting is already underway for the project, which Winderbaum described simply as a “spy thriller,” leaving fans hungry for further details about its plot, setting, and central characters.
A Title Loaded with Comic History
In Marvel Comics, the Zodiac has appeared under several distinct interpretations over the decades, making the show’s identity an intriguing puzzle. The most prominent version is a criminal organization whose members are based on the signs of the Western zodiac wheel and is typically led by a character named Taurus. That iteration usually serves as an antagonist to both the Avengers and SHIELD.

Fans have already begun dissecting the show’s official branding, noting that its logo appears to incorporate an “O” shaped like a zodiac wheel alongside an “A” that embeds the eagle from SHIELD’s emblem. Whether these design choices signal a direct connection to Marvel’s veteran roster of supervillains remains unclear.
An even older and more elaborate version of the Zodiac appeared in the comics as a shadowy coalition of leaders drawn from organizations including Hydra, SHIELD, and the Hand. That group was assembled by an individual operating under the moniker Aries — who turned out to be none other than Leonardo da Vinci — with the goal of reclaiming a series of powerful artifacts. Its roster included Nick Fury and his younger brother Jake Fury, Dum Dum Dugan of the Howling Commandos, Baron Strucker, Daniel Whitehall, and the Hydra agent Kraken.
The show will be a “spy thriller.” We begin shooting in London in spring 2027, and casting is already underway.

A Comeback for Marvel Television’s Live-Action Ambitions
The unveiling arrives at a pivotal moment for Marvel Television, which has notably scaled back on new live-action productions in recent years. In March, the studio announced a second season of the Disney Plus show Wonder Man, only to shockingly cancel it months later. Long-awaited follow-ups to fan favorites such as Moon Knight, Hawkeye, and Ms. Marvel have yet to materialize, fueling reports that Marvel had abandoned live-action television altogether.
Despite those rumors, the group is reportedly still carrying between three and five shows in active development. The studio has also kept momentum with other projects: the third and final season of Daredevil: Born Again is slated to arrive next year, while a new series, VisionQuest, arrives on Disney Plus next week.
On the animation front, Marvel Television has considerably more in the pipeline. A second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is coming in January, with a third season of the acclaimed X-Men ’97 already in production alongside three stand-alone Marvel Zombies specials bound for Disney Plus.
Looking Ahead
With shooting not set to begin until spring 2027 and a target release window of sometime in 2028, Zodiac remains one of Marvel’s most distant upcoming commitments. Casting updates and additional creative details are expected to surface as production progresses, but for now the studio has deliberately kept its cards close to its chest.
The series marks a clear signal that Marvel Television intends to rebuild confidence in its live-action programming even as it leans heavily into animation. As fans speculate about which comic threads Zodiac might pull from — and whether SHIELD, the Avengers, or Hydra lie at its heart — all eyes will be on London next spring when cameras finally start rolling.
