Behaviour Interactive, the Canadian studio best known as the creator of Dead by Daylight, is expanding its roster to support a brand-new unannounced project: a triple-A science-fiction first-person shooter built on Unreal Engine. According to a job posting now live on the developer’s official website and first surfaced by Insider Gaming, Behaviour is seeking a senior technical animator for what it describes as a title with “a high realism bar,” signalling an ambitious push into photorealistic visuals and grounded simulation.

The opening of the role marks one of the clearest signals yet that the studio behind the long-running asymmetrical horror survival hit intends to branch well beyond its comfort zone. While Dead by Daylight remains the franchise most associated with Behaviour’s identity, this new posting points toward a fundamentally different kind of experience—one rooted in realism and immersive world-building rather than supernatural cat-and-mouse gameplay.

A departure from horror

The senior technical animator position is among several roles tied to the unannounced shooter, which Behaviour has categorised as a triple-A science-fiction first-person title. The emphasis on high realism suggests the studio is targeting meticulous attention to detail in areas such as character movement, environmental interaction, and physics-driven animation—hallmarks of simulation-heavy shooters that prize authenticity over arcade-style flair.

The posting was reported by Insider Gaming and posted directly through Behaviour’s careers page, giving early confirmation that production work has already begun. The use of Unreal Engine further aligns the project with studios chasing cutting-edge visual fidelity, as the engine is widely regarded as a leading tool for photoreal rendering and advanced animation systems.

A studio with a varied history

For more than a decade, Behaviour’s identity has been inextricably linked to Dead by Daylight, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary by setting a new Steam concurrent player record. That milestone underscores the enduring popularity of the title that put the Montreal-based studio on the map, even as leadership looks toward diversifying its portfolio.

The developer has not limited itself to horror, however. Behaviour has delivered several projects for third-party publishers in recent years, including Serious Sam: Shatterverse, Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains, and the mobile title Worms Across Worlds. In 2023, it also self-published Meet Your Maker, a base-building game in which players invade opponents’ custom fortresses to steal loot using an extensive array of traps and contraptions.

Despite that promising launch, Meet Your Maker ultimately failed to sustain enough long-term engagement. In 2024, nearly a year after release, Behaviour announced it was shifting the title into maintenance mode as its team moved on to other projects—a decision that highlights the studio’s willingness to reallocate resources toward ventures with greater momentum.

A crowded development slate

The new shooter joins at least one other upcoming project from Behaviour: Exterminauts, a co-op PvE shooter in which three players battle alien creatures using repurposed weapons and tools. However, that title is a third-person game, ruling it out as the same production referenced in the animator posting. Externauts does not yet carry an official release date.

The announcement has generated buzz among observers watching Behaviour’s evolution. After years defined by a single dominant franchise, the studio appears determined to prove its range across genres and perspectives—moving from horror survival into the demanding territory of realistic science-fiction shooting.

Looking Ahead

No release date or further details have been provided for the unannounced sci-fi FPS, as Behaviour has only just begun recruiting for core animation roles. The early hiring phase suggests production is still in its formative stages, with more information likely to emerge as development progresses.

For now, fans and industry watchers alike are left to speculate about how deeply Behaviour will lean into realism and whether the studio can replicate the cultural impact of Dead by Daylight in an entirely different genre. One thing is clear: the developer behind one of gaming’s most enduring multiplayer horrors is aiming for a very different kind of immersion.
